How age is calculated
Your age in years is the number of birthdays you've had. The calculator then counts the months since your last birthday and the days since that month began, which is the same way people say “30 years, 4 months and 12 days”.
Leap-year birthdays (February 29) are counted as having a birthday on February 28 in non-leap years, which matches most everyday and legal use. Totals in months, weeks, days and hours are also shown, and they use the actual calendar, including leap days.
- Check eligibility ages for school, driving or retirement plans.
- Find your exact age on a specific past or future date.
- Work out how old someone was when an event happened.
How age is calculated
Full years count up each birthday. The remaining months and days count from your last birthday (or monthly anniversary) to the chosen date.
Someone born on February 29 turns a year older on February 28 in years without a leap day, which is how most US states treat it.
